What is Super Utility?
Super Utility is a timed, obstacle-based event that focuses on horsemanship, accuracy confidence and partnership.
While the course is timed, the emphasis is on correct riding and smooth completion rather than speed alone. Riders are encouraged to ride at a pace that suits them and their horse.
This makes Super Utility an ideal entry point for those new to competition, while still being enjoyable and rewarding for experienced riders.
Key Features
Obstacles may include:
Bridges, wagons, maypoles, flag tasks, passenger pick-up and drop-off, drag elements, manoeuvre and control challenges.
Courses are thoughtfully designed to be achievable, progressive and fair, allowing riders to build confidence as they move through the series.
Scoring is based on:
Obstacle execution, horsemanship and time. This creates a competitive but supportive format where good horsemanship is rewarded.
Who's it for?
Super Utility is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. It is suitable for:
Riders competing for the first time
Riders returning to competition
Experienced competitors looking for something fun and different
Riders of all ages and backgrounds
All horse breeds and types are welcome. Whether you’re riding a seasoned campaigner or a young horse gaining experience, Super Utility provides a positive and encouraging environment to get started. You don’t need a “finished” horse - just a safe, willing partner and a desire to have a go.
